the story
“Becoming a mom completely rocked me and everything I thought I had planned so well for in my professional life.
After attaining my Degree, 3000 + supervised (& underpaid) clinical hours, high quality and grueling supervision, passed my licensing exam, and attending countless years of my own personal therapy, I thought I had my “stuff” figured out. I thought I was ready to be a mom and would have the most easy going children and would just naturally evolve into this whimsical, sturdy, well-balanced mother……LOL
And then motherhood happened. Humility reckoned with me. I was (and continue to be) challenged to walk my talk, again and again. Reminded that everywhere I go, every new role and life promotion I get, there I am…along with all of my broken and healing parts too. My pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with my first child (in 2020) threw me flat on my face and right back into the cave, to face and re-face all of my demons, vulnerabilities, and worst fears. If you can relate, I’d love to meet you.
Motherhood is a constant invitation to return home to ourselves, and every past version of us that we’ve grappled with or moved on from or learned to embrace. And as therapists and healers, we must follow this call. Our devotion to holding space for the deepest emotional pain and healing of others simply requires it.
As both a therapist and a mother, I know firsthand the challenges of balancing these roles and re-negotiating all the terms I thought I’d made with myself after having kids. My experience includes over a decade of working in mental health and building a thriving private group practice, while navigating my own perinatal trauma and mental health crises, and raising two feral-at-times children, including one with special needs. I’m passionate about creating supportive spaces for other moms in our field, who are truly tapped emotionally. Through this group, we help fellow therapist moms find and share resources, feel less alone, and connect with others who understand the complexities of juggling an entrepreneurial career as a clinician, and the truly disorienting, unpredictable peaks and valleys of motherhood.”
We hope you will join us as we continue to nurture and grow this supportive, no-judgment, loving sisterhood of Therapist Moms.
